Today, I am pleased to join Koreans in Canada and around the world as they begin to celebrate Chuseok, Korean Thanksgiving.
Traditionally, the celebration brings together family and friends around a festive table who give thanks and pay tribute to their ancestors.
This year, because of COVID-19 pandemic, many Korean families will have to find a creative way to celebrate this important holiday. I know that for many Koreans, this is an important time to reflect on the significance of tradition and family values, which are two key principles that we all share as Canadians.
Let us also pay tribute to the long-lasting relations between Canada and South Korea. From our strong support during the Korean War to the historic Canada-South Korea Free Trade Agreement signed under our previous Conservative government – our two nations have built meaningful and lasting relations over many years, which I am sure will continue to flourish.
We are all grateful to Korean Canadians for their numerous achievements and contributions to our great country.
To all those celebrating, and on behalf of the Official Opposition and the Conservative Party of Canada, Happy Chuseok!
