안녕하세요 오타와 교민 여러분,
2021 년 4 월 20 일에 오타와 한인회 (KCAO)가 주최한 <반 인종주의를 향한 연맹 > 이라는 온라인 행사 내용과 다음 < Follow-Up 행사: 한 목소리를 향해 > 내용을 공유하고자 연락드립니다.
오타와 한인회가 주최한 <반 인종주의를 향한 연맹> 온라인 Zoom 행사에는 약 40 명의 아시아계 단체장분들과 아시아계 교민분들이 참석했습니다. 행사는 오후 7 시부 터 9 시까 지 진행됬으며 이번 행사의 5가지 목적 중 주 목적은 캐나다 수도권 (NCR-오타와 및 가티노)에 기반을 둔 아시아계 커뮤니티와 오타와에서 사상 처음으로 각 아시아계 단체에서 겪은 반아시아인 인종차별 및 반 인종주의를 공유하며 논의하여 반인종주의 방지 대책과 인종차별의 대한 캐나다 대중 인식을 바꾸기를 위함이었습니다.
행사 총 참석자 수는 40명이 참여하였으며, 그중 7-8개의 교민단체 (한국, 중국, 일본, 태국, 베트남, 필리핀과) 외 (Ottawa Asian Heritage Month Society와 오타와에서 에틀란타 추모식을 진행한 Grassroots) 단체장 관계분들이 참여했습니다. 또한 이번 행사에서는 한인회를 포함한 4명의 단체장 발표가 있었으며, 발표 후 토론 및 Q&A Session이 진행되었고 모든 참석자가 자신의 인종차별 등 경험을 아시아계 외 소외계층에 대한 생각을 적극적으로 공유하였고, 반인 종주의 예방 방법 및 대응에 대한 아이디어와 제안을 논의했습니다.
행사 끝날 무렵, 오타와 한인회가 제안한 아시아 공동체 협의회 설립에 모든 참석자분들이 매우 긍정적으로 동의하였으며, 구체적인 설립 과정은 다음 Follow-Up행사 때 논의 하기로 했습니다.
다음 Follow-Up 행사는 (아래) 5월 10일, 7시부터 9시까지 진행 될 예정이며 모두의 꾸준한 노력과 관심으로 더욱더 안전하고 평등한 이민 생활을 만들기 위해 교민분들의 많은 관심과 참여 부탁드립니다.

We are contacting you to share the report on KCAO’s The Alliance towards Anti-Racism, and an event invitation for its follow-up event.
[Event Report: The Alliance Towards Anti-Racism]
On April 20, 2021, approximately 40 Asian community leaders, representatives, and individuals of Asian-decent attended a webinar called The Alliance Towards Anti-Racism that was hosted by the Korean Community Association of Ottawa (KCAO). The webinar was held from 7 P.M to 9 P.M through Zoom, and the purpose of this event was to provide a platform to gather all the Asian communities in the national capital region (NCR - Ottawa and Gatineau) to share their experiences and engagement strategy towards Anti-Asian Racism & Anti-Racism, and to also establish coordinated efforts to Anti-Racism.
At the webinar, four representatives from the KCAO, Chinese Community Association of Ottawa (CCAO), Asian Canadian Community Vigil Group, and The Chinese Canadian Collective (CCC) provided their shared experiences and engagement strategies. Discussion and Q&A sessions followed after the presentations where all of the participants actively shared their experiences and proposed ideas on engaging Anti-Racism and discussed the intersecting experiences within the topic of gender and other vulnerable and marginalized populations such as the Black and Indigenous communities. By the end of the webinar, a general consensus was identified in creating the One-Voice approach for all the NCR-based Asian communities to engage in Anti-Racism. The specific details about the logistical and/or administration aspect to create the One-voice approach and/or formation of a council were to be discussed at the follow-up event.
[Follow-Up Event: Towards One Voice]
As the month of May is Asian Heritage Month, KCAO invites you to join a follow-up event from The Alliance Towards Anti-Racism that was held on April 20th, 2021. The follow-up event will be on May 10th, from 7 P.M to 9 P.M on Zoom and the purpose of the event is to first establish the One-Voice approach with specific details to its structure, function, and membership. Second, it is to discuss a joint event to celebrate the Asian Heritage Month; we believe a professional and/or good event is better than a speedy one thus any joint event that’ll be done within May should be suitable.
A finalized version of the agenda will be sent prior to the follow-up event, and KCAO will also provide a detailed proposal in regards to the One-Voice approach. IF you have suggested proposals, PLEASE send them to KCAO (ott.korean@gmail.com) by May 7th, 2021 in order for KCAO to compile the proposals and present them at the event; this will save much time during the event!
